Why we love funny girls

Fashion, Television, Women

The inspiration for this post came from a new movie trailer I saw recently, for a film called Frances HA, which you can watch below:

I think the reason this appealed to me was, one – it’s set in one of my favourite places – New York, and two – it features a girl we can all probably relate to on some level. You know – the goofy girl who says inappropriate things, falls over, doesn’t quite know what she wants to ‘be’ at 27? It got me thinking – this really is the age for the funny girl. Well the ‘normal’ girl I guess is a better way to say it.

We’ve seen it with New Girl, where Zooey Deschanel is the slightly kooky, clumsy girl, and with all the women in Girls who definitely have not got all this ‘life’ stuff figured out. This is why it appeals to us and the reason why most of us can relate to them.

We don’t all look like the girls from Gossip Girl every day – perfectly preened in perfect outfits. Sometimes, we make mistakes, but that’s okay.

I say, all hail the funny girl – we have a bit of her in all of us.

Thanks for reading. Stay Chic!

  1. That looks like a good watch! Probably because goofy inappropriateness and clumsy bumbling through life more closely match my experiences so far than, lets say, Made in Chelsea.
